No, I do not agree. The low carb way of eating has been around for decades. Mr Atkins was not the first person to say it was a good thing. Besides, just like some people being unable to eat some foods, not all diets are for all people.
Some people have to restrict their carb intake because of allergies and other conditions.
Low carb is good for me because it helps me regulate my blood sugar. Regulated blood sugar means I don't have to take insulin, which means I avoid a host of side effects from insulin. I achieve low carb eating by cutting out sugar, having lots of fiber rich vegetables, and eating good quality protein from a variety of sources.
Rice, while very affordable, is not a good food for some people, esp. the processed white rice, which has the outside removed and is almost nutritionally deficient. It is just like eating white bread; no fiber, no minerals, only calories. Whole brown rice is much better. It is not mentally unhealthy to consider rice a food that might be bad for you, for some of us, it is a dangerous food, as is corn, which the body metabolizes like sugar.
You can survive without eating carbs. It has been done, people can maintain a low carb lifestyle for years. What is unnatural is the amount of sugar the modern person eats, and the reduced variety of foods available due to big business cutting out the local farmer and breeding hardier plants with less flavor and nutrients that stay fresh longer, and so can be shipped farther.

What I think is stupid is the way that people completely ignored how Dr. Atkins meant them to change their diet. He never said eat NO carbs-he said eat complex carbs such as vegetables and whole grains versus simple carbs such as sugar and processed grains. His diet as he intended it to be used has helped many people-it's the ignorant people who don't want to put in the effort to learn how to eat more healthily that don't get results. Almost every person I've spoken to about the diet says something idiotic like "oh, I would just get tired of eating bacon and eggs every day", when the diet doesn't recommend eating either very frequently. I don't even follow the diet and I know that much.
But then again,a lot of people are just dumb sheep.

RIGHT THERE WITH YA SISTA!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am up to page 50 in my latest book find. The 3hourDiet
You can read a little about it in an introduction on 3hourdiet.com
WAY COOL. He spends the first 40 pages explaining EXACTLY (and scientifically proving) why Low Carb does not work in the long run AND damages your body!!! Then he explains why and how ALL fad diets fail - with scientific explanations to back it up.
He has an AWESOME plan and it is not about being deprived of ANYTHING AT ALL. It is all about balance, good foods - healthy portions and not oversized portions....... But you never get hungry because you have a good snack and basically end up eating 6 small meals a day rather than 2 or 3 or starving or depriving......
Check out his book girl YOU WILL LOVE IT and it's ONLY $10 at WALMART........ Call 3-Hour Diet By Jorge Cruise and forwarded by Dr. David L. Katz (Oprah's main man on her Dr specials)
Seriously. Only $10 bucks at Walmart

I absoultely agree with you....it's stupid to think rice is the culprit to bad diets. (I love rice as you can see from the handle) We all need carbs to live, it's the bad carbs we have to do without. And since sugar is a form of carbs and vice versa, people often link candy and Oreo's to be fattening carbs and make good carbs like rice guilty by association.

Rice. potatoes, and white flour products are not good for you all the time. In moderation they are ok. It is better to stick to whole grains, fresh fruits, veggies and lean meats. I am a diabetic and by cutting back on the rice and white flour I am better able to keep my blood sugars at an even level.

I agree that the no carbs forever club is unhealthy.
However, carbs have always been a problem in weight loss. It just depends on WHAT carbs you choose to indulge in that makes the difference.

Preach, sister preach. People who aren't FORCED to manually adjust their carbohydrate intake and balance the amount of foods in their diet (as in the case of type 1 diabetes) can't imagine how ridiculous all that chat about carbs are bad, then no carbs are bad, etc etc etc sounds.
:-)

YES for the same reasons you listed and omitting a complete food group out of your dietis destined for failure yeah it may work for a while but!!!!!!!! do you have to stop eating carbs forever? to me it seems people would get to their target wieght then gain it all back because they would think whats one bowl of spaggetti going to do to me then continues and continues till they are back to square one!!! instead they should of of just monitored portions and made healthy food choices
