I got several teeth pulled 1 week ago. On the one furthest in back, the bone is exposed. There was no dry socket, the gum on the outside(by my cheek) is not there. I went back to the dentist today and he said it was normal, it would heal itself. I am very weary of this docter, I have other concerns as well. Is this normal or should I have this checked by someone else? I can't afford to go if it is normal...can someone help?????

I have been keeping it covered with my partials, so no air is touching it. It hurts really bad when it is touched and sometimes I can feel lil pains shooting up it.

EXPOSED BONE AFTER AN EXTRACTION TAKES PLACE IS NOT NORMAL. THE INSERTING AND REMOVAL OF THE PARTIAL MAY HAVE EASILY DISPLACED THE BLOOD CLOT THAT WOULD HAVE FORMED OVER THE BONE AS IT HEALS. I WOULD SEE ANOTHER DENTIST IF THIS DENTIST REFUSES TO TREAT EXPOSED BONE.
HOWEVER,THE PAIN OF THE DRY SOCKET WOULD BE EXCRUCIATING, AND IT WOULD BE THERE CONTINUALLY NOT JUST IF YOU TOUCH IT -- SO THIS MAY INDEED BE A SLOW-TO-HEAL SITE .ESPECIALLY IF YOU KEEP INSERTING AND REMOVING THE PARTIAL OVER IT. THE FIRST DENTIST MAY BE RIGHT AFTER ALL.

it is normal, HOWEVER... you should not be wearing your partial over it- it will cause it to heal slower - you say several teeth? how many? most i ever had pulled at once was 2 and i know i saw the exposed bone - it just takes time for the gum to heal back up over the bone - is there pain though? if there is pain you might have the beginning of dry socket - but anyway, yes it looks creepy, but it is normal and will grow back over with time - how much time depends on how many holes it is having to grow over ... the only thing that i would worry about is - are you diabetic? if you are you want to keep a close eye on it, being diabetic, especially if you are not taking good care of your blood sugar, will take forever to heal AND possibly get infected - but if not, just continue to rinse with warm salt water until its all healed over.

If there is no pain, rinse with warm salt water until it heals. It sounds as if it could have used a couple of stitiches, but if there is no infection it should heal okay. Your teeth are attached to your jaw bone, so yes, this can happen. I had to have my jaw bones scraped when I have some of my teeth removed. Small pieces of jaw bone would work out of the gum. Some were too big, and I would have to go back and have them taken out.

I don't think this is normal. I have had all my uppers pulled and never seen a bone. You need to go see someone else if it is bothering you. I would suggest a surgeon. This could be a problem on down the line.

No it is not normal. Go to another dentist tomorrow.
It does sound like a dry socket to me. What about pain? If there is a lot of pain then it is a dry socket.

It will heal itself is correct but it's normal is incorrect. It is not necessary to see a dentist for this unless you find pain locally around the area of extracted tooth.

It seems like they would suture over the bone area.
I think it might be worth your time to just call up another doctor of dentistry in your area and just ask him his opinion. If it is a normal occurrance, he will probably just tell you over the phone for free.

it doesn't sound normal, but if thats what the denist said then I would probably go with that and instead of going in to pay another doc I would call some other dental offices and ask if this is normal or not...

It can be normal, you can also have small chips work out long after the tooth is removed.
