in the past 3 years, i did my taxes online (hr block) twice and went to jackson hewitt last year. i'm a single male, rent, no military background, i don't expense anything (at least i don't think i do), no dependents, blah blah blah....................does it matter where i get my taxes done? a co-worker of mine is the same age and she recommended her accountant saying that she gets a MUCH bigger refund than if she went to HR Block or one of those places............but........she's married, has a kid, etc. being that i have such a simple "tax" life, does it matter where i go? or if i just do mine online?

If your tax return is done correctly, then it won't matter where you go, your taxes and therefore your refund will be the same. That would apply to your coworker also.

Anybody can get a big refund - just have more taxes withheld. The thing that matters is how much tax you pay.

It might make a difference depending on what deductions you could be missing. Find a small local tax place that will do a free estimate for you and see how it comes out. I would stay away from the so called big three, Block, Jackson Hewitt and Liberty Tax Service, they over charge and are not very good.

I suggest this.

Try it through the H&R Block web site. They have an option to efile directly from the site. The cost is much, much less than a visit to the office to get it done, and there is one option on there that lets you seek advice from a tax pro, and I believe it's one free consultation.

Also, if you start it online but aren't sure of something, you can print out what you have already done, take it to an office and have someone look it over. They can take what you've already done and finish it for you, and will give you a big discount on the whole process.

Personal preference.

SHE must have big bucks to use an accountant OR has many other deductions that needs more attention than the regular working guy/gal.

I have used for the past several yrs ONLINE preparation. So do my in-laws BUT my parents USE an accountant. They have more MONEY to waste than we do! LOL

If you can do simple math you can do your own taxes. Especially when you are filing with the EZ forms (no deductions, etc.)
People with kids get the earned income tax credit -so they always get boatloads of money back for simply breeding!

I don't think it matters where you do them, as long as you DO do them.

I'm single, rent, and no kids, too. I use Turbo Tax... with some help from a family member.
