I have a robotic competition, how can I get through this kind of competition?

First think of what task your robot needs to accomplish. Find ways to accomplish this task (no matter how impossible). Now go through your list and look at the options that are more practical and efficient. Can you make your robot do this? The simplest choice is probably best. Over complicating may result in an inefficient or non-functional robot. All in all, have fun with it.
