I am just wondering if this is normal because I haven't really talked about it to anyone. Since I was about 9, I have had this INTENSE fear that my mother was going to die. The thought of her dying takes up much of my day. Currently, I am 28. It just hit me tonight that I have pretty much been worrying about my mom's death for 20 years. Is this normal? If not, what could be causing this persist. thought? Thanks

It is an anxiety disorder, and also a sign of OCD (obessive compusive disorder) alot of people are afflicted with it! I know because I had the same problem with out even knowing it. I just had all these worries about things that I had no control over. I still struggle with it now that i have my own children I was so scared of my kids dying i wouldnt let them play unless i was right there then it occured to me I need help I'm not being good to my kids by only letting them play when i was right there and keeping them constantly by my side. so i started going to counsling and it has helped tremendously and I pray everynite to keep my family safe and i tell my family everyday how much I love them and appreciate them.

It could be that you love each other so much, that there really aren't enough times a day that you could say it or show it. If that's the case, there really isn't. I feel the same way sometimes since I became a "Daddy." I can't wait, and hope that I'm here long enough to be promoted to "Grandpa!"
In the mean time, don't consume yourself with the negative thoughts. Enjoy the time...call her and take her phone calls. See Her when you can.

Cheers.

P.S. There probably aren't abondonment issues, so don't read into those comments!

Your not the only one..
I worried the same for years and it was even harder to accept when my mom only passed away when i was 23..
Are you close to your mom?? i was and i think that is why i worried so much.. i did the same to other people in my life as well. Plus i lost a close loved one at a younge age so i think it made me realize very young you could lose any one you love..

I hate to state the obvious, but at some point your mom is going to pass on.

Have you had friends who have lost their moms? That may be the source of your worry? Was your mom often ill? If not, then you probably just suffered from paranoia. I'm curious as to what happened to end your paranoia?
