Is there a mental-health issue that is specific to highly intellegent people?
I know somebody who is a genius, but I have watched him dwindle everyday. He is approaching his 30's, and has no life.
He has serious problems "getting through" to people, and cannot find anyone who shares his passions. I know he has so much potential, but he is a flickering-flame about to go out.
He has fears that prohibit him from expressing himself, and he is extremly shy!
Does this sound familiar to anyone?

There is hope, he just needs to seek some professional help to get him over the stump. Some people find it really hard to talk to other people, especially men. He has probably had a ruff time or experiences with being open to people that has ruined his ability to open up and share his thoughts and feelings. I have been there before! I am sure every one has experienced some type of feeling from people who don't listen or understand and some people just give up trying. I hope he gets back on the up of things and things start improving, in the mean while he really needs some professional help! They will listen and help him over come what ever has gotten him stuck!

i don't know if this would be a mental health issue in itself but it seems that it could be causing a mental health problem. I think that people who are super smart spend so much time involved in things of the mind that they forget to learn how to socialize properly and this inevitably leads to their downfall. Maybe you should try getting him out more. I know this will be hard being that he is so shy but it will be for the best. Start him off slow, don't put him out there around people you know are going to make him feel uncomfortable that wouldn't be good at all that would just make him want to stay away from people more. I think the more social he becomes the more people he will come into contact with that may actually share his interest. I hope this helps and give him a hug for me.
