Yes, just make sure you keep his food and water bowls clean, as the bacteria from them may have been what caused it in the first place. My cat had that, and the vet told me to use Stridex pads on my cat's chin and also gave me some prescription medicine for it.
In reference to the person above, if it hurts, he won't let you scratch it. But if he likes it then it should be fine. The person below is correct about the plastic bowls - my vet said the same thing. They are breeding grounds for bacteria. My cat only had a very mild case of acne; you might not want to scratch it if it is very bad. I have never seen a bad case, but if he is wanting you to scratch it, then it can't be too bad. But do wash your hands afterwards.

Feline acne is caused from eating and drinking out of plastic bowls. The plastic irritates their skin, there for getting feline acne. It is best to use either glass or aluminum bowls to feed and water your cat. I wouldn't advise tho to scratch him on the chin. You might make his chin more sore, it could bleed. The acne will go away shortly after you change his bowls to glass or aluminum. It Hope this helps!

My cat had acne on his chin and I was told it was from plastic (especially on the food dishes). Try changing the dishes to ceramic ones. Also, I used regular anti-bacterial soap and water to clean it and/or baby wipes. Within a few weeks it had cleared right up.

From years of experience we learned that you should never use plastic water or food bowls for cats or dogs. This condition that you described persisted until we started using ceramic bowls. You didn't say that you use plastic, but this is something to consider.

rub it, but remember to use an antibacterial hand wash after touching his chin. Don't worry, it will go away If you are really concerned, please call the vet. He/she may want you to bring him a stool sample to check for worms.
