The best beer today, tomorrow, and forever is the beer that gets produced in my kitchen after my regularly scheduled trip to my local home brew supplier.
Ain't nothin' beats a good home brew.

Like asking "what's the best vacation spot?" or "what's the best song?"
It depends on what you like. I'll give you the some of the best microbrews you'll ever find for the categories.
Sweet/smooth stout - Rogue Chocolate Stout
Robust stout - Three Floyds Dark Lord Russian Imperial Stout
Robust stout - Dogfish Head World Wide Stout
Robust stout - Founder's Kentucky Breakfast Stout
IPA - Dogfish Head 90-minute IPA
Trappist - Westvleteren Abt 12
Trappist - Trappistes Rochefort 8
Bock - Kuhnhenn Raspberry Eisbock
Wheat - Weihenstephan HefeWeiss
Mass-produced:
Summer beer - Bell's Oberon, Corona, Cerveza Sol, Hoegaarden, Blue Moon
Winter beer - Sam Adam's Winter Lager
Other: Sam Adam's Octoberfest
And as Ray G brilliantly suggested, Sierra Nevada P.A. is excellent.

God, everyone listing all these Light beers and mass produced crap... it is a sad list my friends. I also homebrew and I have come up with some pretty good stuff, but still not quite as good as some of the microbrews out there. Great White Belgian Witbier from Lost Coast Brewery is a great summer beer. Hofbrau Munchen from the Hofbrauhaus in Munich Germany is awesome, but the imported stuff is gross you have to go to Germany to get the real mcCoy. But for easy to find stuff, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale makes a pretty strong case as best mass produced beer. You know a good beer from a crappy tastless beer by the suggested serving temp. Any beer that says you are supposed to serve it ice cold is going to be a terrible beer. You get the full flavor profile at around 45-50 degrees so if you cant drink a beer unless it is freezing your palate so you cant taste it (all you corona and guiness drinkers out there) then the beer is crap and you are getting ripped off.

Well it really depends on where you are and whether you are drinking draft, bottled, or canned beer. I would vote for Red Stripe on draft while in Jamaica. That is the best beer on draft at a certain location.
However if you are looking for a beer on draft in American bars, you can't ever go wrong with any Bud (Budweiser on tap is always stellar!), or Miller products, or for dark beers go with Guiness on tap.
If you are looking for bottled beers on the American market, I would recommend Blue Moon with oranges or Budweiser Select.
Speaking generally, and the beer that I currently drink most often, I would vote for Budweiser Select in a bottle. Tastes great, goes down smooth, and has a great name!
