if the redness spreads outward more, or if it hurts a lot, changes color or gets pussy at all go to your doc. an infection could spread into your bloodstream if it gets bad.

use hydrogen peroxide on it. keep it clean. put a big bandaid loosely over it, don't wear tight clothes that rub against it.

A mild antibacterial soap is best. Lather the soap up while showerinf and wipe the foam on the piercing, scraping off any crusty bits. Rotate the piercing so the foam can get through the whole piercing. Rinse.

Don't use peroxide, as using it too often keeps the skin from healing so it will keep getting infected.

Also, make sure the piece of jewellery you have in is good quality. Even though I had mine pierced for 7 years without problem, I put in some cheapish jewellery a year ago & it got infected! I used to soap method to clear up the infection in no time.

Don't let everyone scare you, new piercings get infected about half the time, regardless of how well you clean it.

The best thing is warm salt water. You can soak a cotton ball or a Q-tip and wash you bellybutton out as much as you want with it.

Anytime you get your piercing wet, make sure to dry it thoroughly.

If it starts to puss a lot and be red and painful, you can use hydrogen peroxide once a day for three or four days. It's best to avoid this if you can, it can make your piercing heal improperly if you overdo it.

Don't take it out... it probably looks really cool.

you should NOT take out the peircing if it is infected! Do go to the doctor or have them call you in an antibiotic for it. Go back to where you had it pierced and have them look at it. Good luck! Make sure you are keeping it clean and washing it with antibiotic soap. Did you get aftercare instructions on how to take care of it?

take hot water with sea salt in a cup and hold it over the piercing the heat will draw out the infection and the sea salt in help in healing so it wont get infected also don't use peroxide or rubbing alcohol it eats away the new tissue so it wont heal, you can however use bactine it should clear up in no time. and it may be a allergic reaction to the metal I have seen that before as well if so go back to where you got it pierced and have them swap it out for a plastic or acrylic navel ring if there is non of those available coat your ring in clear nail polish good luck!

well i got mine pierced actually not too long ago and it got ripped accidentally. but what i did was make sure that it was allllways clean. and i went to the nearest jewelry store and got a new belly button ring. its not metal. its acrylic. trust me it will help it heal alot better. it will hurt when you take it out and put in this new one. but in the long run it works out. mine is doing just fine now. it helped it alot.

keep it clean. dont rub on it. maybe put gauze over it til it heals. you could also be allergic to the steel the ring is made of(well for me i cant wear cheap jewerly). try that. but most of all keep it CLEAN.
