I would look into florida, they recently had a housing boom here, to many people got involved trying to make a quick buck, now there's and excess of housing available, and the prices are dropping rapidly. Orange County, Lake county, are good places to start.

My first instinct was Cape Cod... probably not the least expensive, houses are available for weekly rental at reasonble rates.... Second, I have never been here, nor do I know how to spell it properly Mackinaw Island in Northern Michigan is supposed to be really nice. Central Virginia can be nice, gets REALLY humid for not being on the water though. Hope some of these help and have a Great summer!!

Yea, Colonial Williamsburg is a great family place. I work at the Days Inn Historic in Williamsburg and we're only 7 miles from Busch Gardens and Water Country USA. There's also a lot of shopping around here. You can check it out at Williamsburgvacations.com

Stay home. Spend any money you would have by traveling, in making your place nicer. A new pillow, curtains or rug will reward you long after the disappointments of travel hassles have finally gone.
Travel is for those who need to escape.
Don't escape...make your cocoon nicer!
Al Gore is burning an average of 23,000 gallons of jet fuel a day, since last October. Let's stop traveling until he does, or there will be a climate problem.

I live on the east coast of Florida. I love it here During the Summer, we get a great seabreeze. It helps to blow around the warm air and make it feel quite bareable. Despite what people from the north say, Coastal Florida is quite enjoyable during the Summer.

I have no idea, but I want to answer your question in my own way.
I never go away for vacation because it costs too much, and I don't like the part of coming back to reality.
So, I have to say in a braod way, that there is no affordable place to vacation.
What you have are places looking for open credit on your credit cards. Once you've maxed them out, vacation is over and it's back to reality.
Unfortunately, that's the way it is. Wish it weren't, but......
