My cat all of a sudden yesterday started going crazy with licking herself. She wont stop biting at her back paws and her front ones. I laid her down and looked at them and nothing is wrong with them but everytime she walks she starts licking them and shes been twitching alot? Is there something wrong with her or what exactly should I do? Thanks!

Well i've found out that she is having an allergy to her medicine shes on for a urinary tract infection- i called the vet and he told me to take her off of it and if she doenst get better to bring her there in about a week. Shes been sleeping all day today since i didnt give her her pill and she threw up once and she meows reallly really loud before she throws up. But so far shes doing ok- no twitching or eating at her paws. Thanks alot to everything to offered advice. It looks like she just had an allergy to the medication.

Get your cat to a vet immediately! I am not as much worried about the licking as the twitching, she sounds like she could be having some sort of neurological seizures or something. That could be something as she walked through someones antifreeze covered parking area, if the car was leaking or was drained. It got on her paws, she licked it off, now she's been poisoned and is twitching and in the beginning stages of kidney shut down. Anytime an animal is twitching out of the blue it is usually some form of poision affecting them neurologically or just an abnormal brain function. She may be having focal seizures and those could be in the form of the obsessive licking and twitching. Either way, hurry and get help soon! If it were my cat I would go right now and find the nearest animal ER. If it is a neurological poisioning, she may not be able to be helped if you wait too much longer. Good luck.

That scratching is called "Pruritus." This itching is an unpleasant sensation that causes a cat to scratch or bite at himself. It is caused by chemical reactions that occur in the skin and stimulate the nerves, causing the brain to feel the itch. Chronic licking of the paws and feet is also a sign of pruritus. If lft unattended, the cat will shown balding spots where he keeps licking or scracthing himself.
The key to relief from pruritus is to identify and treat the underlying cause. Pruritus may be temporarily relieved with medication but the itching often recurs after the medication is finished. Your vet may prescribe temporary relief in the form of(a) Antihistamines; (b) Fatty acid supplements; (c) Soothing shampoos; (d) Corticosteroids.
Take your cat to have the cause of the pruritus discovered and so get the right kind of treatment or meds.

Your cat is in need of counseling. First the counselor will arrange a session with just him/her and the cat. After the first session you his master will be invited in to discuss your cat's problem. After your cat opens up and starts to express his feelings you will have a beter understanding of what is bothering him. The counselor may advise you to put the cat in time out every time he acts up this way. Do not let him come out of time out until he apologizes and can explain to you his master what he did wrong.

You need to bring her to the vet if this is a sudden change. She may have stepped in poison and is slowly poisoning herself.
