Early on the parvo vaccination is the most important and the pup should receive. The other shot that all dogs must have is a rabies vaccination.

You can buy the parvo vaccine at most farm supply stores and give it to the pup yourself by pulling the loose skin on the back of the neck. The shot should not be given in the muscle, only under the skin. However, if you don't feel that you can do it, your vet will be glad to do it for you for about $15.

The rabies shot is only available at the vets office and runs about $10 for an entire year.

Legally you need only rabies.. But it is wise to have Canine distemper, Andeovirus Type2, parainfluenza, and parvo.
Done at 6, 8, 12 and 16 weeks of age, and rabies shot at 16 weeks of age... The 3 year rabies shot is the best way to go.
