First off I know this is on the R&S forum. Part of this is b/c anytime you write "God" you go there. The other is that I'm aiming to get some Christian points of view. With all due respect, please spare me the "God blesses" and "God even loves you's".

I want all of you to know I am NOT offended by your religion. It's great that you found something that fills your day to day life with joy but damn, can't you talk about something else?

It's always: because God loves us all or we are his children or because Jesus died for our sins, or God is great, etc.

As an agnostic, getting responses to my questions like, "it's because God is so perfect" just doesn't ring with me and I know I am not alone.

To answer your title question: yes, on occasion I am bothered by glib, and often disingenuous, answers given by Christians in response to questions posed to them. However, when offered in sincerity, I find that the problem, that annoyance of receiving such a seemingly silly response, rests not in the giver of the response, but the receiver. If I ask a child how he or she got such a shiny, new toy for Christmas, I would not respond with disdain if that little one said, "Santa Claus gave it to me! Oh, how I love Santa!" Yet, if a Christian, in all the sincerity he or she can muster says, "God is great," why would that be an annoyance? If I had heard a child speak 100 times about Santa, I would not grow weary in hearing it since I am seeing another human, in their innocence, experience joy to the fullest. Unfortunately, Christians (and others) are not extended the same grace for reasons which I have not the space to explain.

When Christians provide simple (and to your mind, unsatisfactory) answers, it is possibly for these reasons. 1) They do not know the answer to your question, but feel the need to respond anyways. This type of reaction is not limited to those who believe in Christ; it is human nature. This need to respond in the face of hard questions comes from various sources. One may simply not want to lose the argument and thus provide a trite, but all-encompassing, answer; it's a sort of "beat this" response. This annoys me too and I'm a Christian. In this case, the best answer for an agnostic might be, "I don't know, but I'll get back to you." 2) The Christian does know the answer, but it's not easily explainable, or the person lacks the ability to verbalize the answer properly. Unfortunately, many of the experiences of the Christian "walk" are not explainable. It can, in fact, be said that the more powerful the experience, the more one wants to share that experience, yet the less it is explainable. When after years of praying, God finally frees a person from addiction to pornography during some lighted morning under an especially light sky, what can that person say but, "God loves me." Such are the most important events in a Christian's life, and such are their best efforts to explain them. So, it's likely that Christians, in saying, "God is great," may be attempting to explain the unexplainable.

To God be the glory.

You have to understand many Christians believe all the need is the bible to gain spiritual knowledge. Once you believe all you need is in God why would you spend time learning anything else spiritually.

I personally like the Taoist point of view:

The Tao is like a well:
used but never used up.
It is like the eternal void:
filled with infinite possibilities.

It is hidden but always present.
I don't know who gave birth to it.
It is older than God.

We only use the verses to defend our point of view so that our "versy" answers at least appear to come from intelligent resources and not just "off the top of our heads". Man cannot explain all the wonders of God by himself, so he has to have understanding of the Word in order to help others believe.

I've given up on most of them. But there are some Christians who would engage you in a good debate. But because this site is littered with lazy thinking Christians, one has to e patient to find such Christians. Again they take time to type answers and you'd find them at the bottom of answers to your question.

I had to get that out of my system, sorry.

We are just trying to share the news with non-believers that there is happiness and eternal life for everyone. And GOD loves us all.
