I just got a great idea to wear my hair down with large barrel waves for my wedding, (my hair is naturally thick, frizzy, and wavy). The problem is I am having an outdoor wedding in July in the Midwest. Very humid = Very frizzy!! Are their any products or techniques I could use to have silky controled waves or must I resign to an updo??

First off, try this style out several times in locations where you will be very active and let the weather "get to it". Second, talk to a hairdresser about this style. They might suggest a different cut so that the style works for you.

Also, I would take two days to "do" your hair. Most styles hold better in hair that isn't perfectly clean.

First day:
I would wash it and make sure to condition it well. Then I would use something like Phomolliant (sp?) which is a light controlling foam and I would blow dry it. Then I would use some Brilliant (maybe it's called Brilliance-3 drops/squirts for shoulder length hair) on your hair and use a ceramic flat iron to straighten in. The B will keep it shiny, smooth, and will help protect it from the damage you are doing to it w/the flat iron.

The second day, I would try to create the barrel waves and I would put more B on it for more heat protection before creating the curls.

** About the ceramic flat iron. You can get them at a Sally's store for about $60 if you are getting a brand that is called GVI (it's a knock off of CHI products, but works wonderfully). I have a 1 inch, ceramic flat iron and I can't say enough good things about it.

It's important to get a good flat iron, ceramic gets much hotter to straighten your hair and remove the excess moisture from your hair. My hair can be straight for 3 days from one good flat iron session.

If you don't want to do all of this for your hair, then it might be easier to pay a stylist to work on you for a few hours instead of stressing over it yourself.

My hair has always been really thick, curly, and frizzy. I just bought a hair straightener called "Wet2Straight" ... you wash your hair and then use it while you're hair is still wet and it straightens and dries it. I would do that if I were you, and then put the curls in or whatever you're looking to do. The frizz is completely eliminated. Make sure you get the one that you can use while you're hair is wet, it works the best. For better results, first use the straightener on the lower layers of your hair and work your way to the outer layers. (Wet2Straight is $27 at Walmart)

Another suggestion is to use the hair straightener and then put Biosilk in your hair, it comes out shiny and silky with no frizz. It's great. Good luck =) (Biosilk is about $20 at any salon, and it lasts a really long time.)

As beautiful as large barrel waves sounds, the reality is your hair is going to be jacked if you wear it down. I have been let down so many times by my hair, so I would BEG you to find a chic updo and enjoy your wedding. Frizzed out hair is going to look really sad in your photos......

As a husband, my wife has beautiful curly hair but she wore it up and still look gorgeous. But even if she had a "bad hair" day, I still would have married her.
