I certainly think that anything that you can do to enhance your culinary knowledge is a good step to being a better chef. It is one of the few career fields where one can have a degree and still spend a lifetime learning the craft!!

Studying gastronomy will give you a solid grounding in the history and culture of food and drink.

Which in turn will help with your skills as a chef.
