I can't tolerate the "pie in the sky" types who tell you everything is wonderful ( when in all reality it isn't.) You know the type like Amway - just think positive and you will sell millions of dollars worth of their products and have tons of $ coming your way. I like fun-loving, non-pollyanna, realists. Everyone I have spent any time around with, people, has had their negative moments.
When there is a real lion in the streets, I want to know it - negative or not !!!

For the same reason that when someone smiles at you, you will have the tendency to smile back. Joyfulness is catching. We can create our own happiness simply by saying to ourselves, I will be happy today and to make the effort. Before long it becomes a habit...a good one. And because you were so kind as to post this question on a religion and spiritual forum I have to add that it doesn't hurt one bit to be walking with God either. The peace and joy that he puts in our spirit shows itself in our behavior. I'm not saying that a Christian will never have a moment of unhappiness but challenges and trials won't beat us down for any length of time because we have internal peace and for the most part, that peace makes everything else in life bearable.

I think some research has shown that optimists (people with positive attitudes) have higher levels of endorphins, pleasure-making chemicals in the brain. Mainly, it's just logic. If you expect your life to be happy, it'll probably seem happy. If you expect life to be sad, it'll seem sad. And happiness is contagious. Being around people who are happy usually makes you happier.
