Hi great one!!
Without a doubt public speaking is the number one fear most people have. You are not alone. The good news is that some people take xanax and or klonopin just to name two the night before and the day of the speech to help with nerves. Its not essential ofcourse for a great speech but it does help with panic and or anxiety during stressful times. You can talk to your Doc about it and work that out with him or her. God Bless you and dont worry!! Its common

Fear of speaking in public may be the most common phobia there is. My experience with this was classic.
What helped was surprisingly direct. I took a speech class in which the instructor used techniques that gradually overcame my discomfort.
The very first thing each of us spoke outloud in that class was simply our names. We spoke from our seats, but were asked to keep our head up and scan the class while speaking our name.
Next we each repeated the same exercise, but stood at our seats.
Third we each were given the beginning of a sentence, like, " I grew up in___" or "I went to school in____". Each of us would stand, walk to the podium, and complete that one sentence.
Gradually we were able to stand, walk to the podium, and make longer and longer presentations.
Later I found that when I was speaking of something that I knew very very well and had strong feelings about I could speak with very little discomfort. And I learned techniques like making eye contact with a single audience member, and then another, and another; or moving away from the podium--walking up to the audience, or walking to a display.
Eventually I found that even though I had a little stage fright--I've heard that even seasoned performers do--that I was able to actually have fun doing presentations on subjects that I cared about. Like you, I am very articulate, I just needed to learn this new thing--how to speak in public.
I am so happy that I had that experience--that class, and the exercises that instructor used.
I wish you great success and enjoyment of your career.

You are not alone!
And I am sure you are not the only Soon to be Lawyer with a fear of stage fright.
I use to keep a paper clip in my pocket I would give my speach but I would bend up the paper clip.
Now I can give a speech with no paper clips YEAH! Overtime you will overcome your fears but until then find something that will help you to distract yourself.
You are here to teach us about your speech! We have no clue that is why you are teaching us! In other words tell yourself the audience has no idea I have to teach them or they won't know!
Tell yourself you are smart!
You know your speech!
And you will be a DAMN good Lawyer!
Good Luck!

I have the same problem, its honestly just stage fright. Right before you get up take a few deep breaths, and do the same right before you start speaking. Once you start talking focus on one person in the audience, and imagine that you are talking to only this person. This usually helps to calm my nerves.

It is perfectly normal to be nervous when you are suddenly in the spotlight. Just breath deeply and try to activly relax your muscles.
On another note, did you know that more people are afraid of public speaking than of death? It's true. I suppose that means when you go to a funeral most people would rather be in the casket than giving the eulogy....

I have this problem too. I can't seem to take a breath when I have to talk in front of large groups of people. The funny thing is that I'm a pianist and I have to play in front of hundreds of people at least four times a week, and I'm not afraid to do that anymore. I won't solve the problem of speaking in front of groups of people, but luckily I won't have to worry about that too much, but the way I got rid of my fear of playing the piano in front of people is I forced myself to play in front of groups of people over, and over again. It was awful and it felt like torture, but eventually it became second nature, and it didn't bother me anymore. Somehow you need to find something you can do that will force you to speak in front of people. I know it's hard, but it works.

Forget about the public. Stand up there and present your case. Don't worry about what other people think of you. If your case is true and correct, then you have nothing to worry about. Make sure that what you present is accurate. If you lie, then people will know. Be yourself, don't worry about others. You will be nervous, but, make sure that you prepare yourself properly beforehand. Nothing is easy, but nothing is hard either.

Do some relaxation excercises. My speech teacher gave me some that help you relax your entire body so you don't freak out when you're in front of a ton of people. Good luck!
