This is common in ancient Near Eastern literature. Those without a faith commitment to the Scriptures will say that Yahweh is like any other ancient Near Eastern god. Those with a faith commitment will say that Yahweh accommodated himself to the expectations of the ancient Near Eastern peoples in order to communicate truth to them within their historical and cultural context.

Symbolic, as if a means for heaven and earth to meet at... Alot of what God does is symbolic, it's how he can relate a point to humans. Otherwise, we would still be grasping in darkness, as to many of the designs he has intended for us.
