It has purple leaves and looks like it belongs to the cabbage family. The name sounds like ridicule? I think it's used a lot in Italian cooking.
Thanks

It's called Radicchio. There are different varieties and shapes to it.
I included a link to an image and another one with definition and other information.

radiccio is small and shaped like a little cabbage. Endive is the torpedo shape, and it comes in green/white and red/white

there is a variety of radicchio called radicchio di treviso. Its an elongated, endive shaped vegetable that is nice quartered and grilled with olive oil. Or open it up a little, remove the heart and stuff it with breadcrumbs, anchovies, capers and olives and bake. Yummy.

Zuccini are tub shaped, sort of like a torpedo or missle.
Acorn Squash are sort of round and pointy, sort of like the point of a missle. Eggplant are big, and round lke a bomb. But you said th cabbage family? I' m not sure.

Raddicio or perhaps Red Endive? The only other possibility might be a red kale plant, but those really are more for garnish as they are bitter!!! (more than raddicio or the endive)
