Does it have to do with siliva mixing with oxygen while chewing? or something to do with phenylalanine?

Yes, when we chew, there is a mixture of air and saliva going down the esophagus to the stomach where it again separates to force a burp or make a bloating feeling.

I do not know anyone who complains of bloating. However, that may be because nobody I know chews the "sugarless" types. Those fake sugars do a number on your digestive process. They give me a bad tummy ache, and you know that whenever something makes you sick, you KNOW what made you sick and avoidance will do the trick to stop it from repeating the same episode again.

It's because when you chew gum, gas is released into your stomache.
