Any doctor and prescribe meds for anxiety, you can go to your family physician. You don't have to go to a therapist.

Medication is not always the correct route to take. Medications tend to MASK the underlying problem that is actually causing anxiety. A GOOD therapist will not take the medication route in the beginning. That is something to keep in mind. To answer your question; there are several kinds of "therapist". Some are psychologist, which is someone who has a Ph.D. in psychology. Others are professionals with a masters degree in psychology or social work; these professionals do not prescribe medication in most states. However, if they feel meds are warranted, they will refer you. A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who specializes in psychology. They can, but do not normally, treat minor disorders such as anxiety. If you are having difficulty with anxiety, a good psychologist or therapist will most likely be able to help you.

The type of therapy that uses drugs is called pharmacotherapy.
You can see a psychiatrist or psychologist.

Why are you looking for a doctor to prescribe drugs? Why not look for a professional to help you overcome anxiety?

I have read some litterature about panic attacks. But they allways seem to have a more scientific approach and that is nothing I need in my struggle to survive those horrible panic attacks. This is a "hand on" and very practical book. I felt it was written to me. I am sure that you are going to feel the same.

Joe Barry writes exactly how I think. The examples are perfectly described. And the method is genius. I recommend this book and thanks Joe Barry for writing it. It changes your life
