Yes, cats can break their tails because the tail is composed of several vertebrae, like the spine. As far as I know, I don't think it happens very often. Cats seem to be quick to keep their tail out of the way of trouble.

I know someone whose dog broke its tail, though. The dog's tail normally curled over its back, but it became injured and broke and hung limply until it healed naturally. Now it's fully recovered with its tail once again curled over its back.

Unfortunately it is very possible for a cat to break it's tail, or for you to break the cat's tail. I know, I've done it by mistake. When one of my cats was a tiny kitten she got in the way of a door and it closed on her tail. There really was nothing to do but to wait it out and in a few weeks she was fine. Just had to watch out for the tail and treat her extra special for awhile.

Yes it is. A cat I had several years ago did. I let her outside, not realizing the dog next door hates cats. A while later I heard her meowing like crazy outside. The dog attacked her and somehow broke her tail, and the vet had to amputate her tail because of it.

Yes it is. And it's very serious, especially in a multicat household.

Watch your cat, and you can easily see that the cat uses it's tail for balance. But even more important, cats use their tails to communicate wit each other (and you if you are observant)
So in a multicat household, a cat eith a broken tail has a speech impediment.

Yes it is. My cat broke his, and it was a little crooked on the end. The vet suggested we leave it since he was old. Also, the tip of the tail is the most sensitive.

Yes! I had a cat that unfortunately got ran over. I was happy to find out it was only her tail and it was broke I had two options. leave it and it would be like that forever (bent) or they could try to cast and fix it as much as possible.

Um when my lil brother was 3, he literally tore the tail off of my grammy's cat. So they can come off and most likely break.

No, it is impossible. Even if you ran over it with a tank it would not break. The military has been interested in using cat's tails to replace titanium in their machines, but they can't break the tails off of the cats.
