Hey I bought a 1gb memory card and it says it has 992,000kb, is this a real 1gb or did they sell me a fake one?

Yes that would be correct. 1GB = approx. 1,000,000 KB. They obviously are storing an initial file on the flash drive for you. That is why there is a very small inaccuracy in the storage space.

1 million kb is equivalent to 1 GB. It's not really possible to quite get every last kilobyte out of a memory card or a hard disk drive, so manufacturers just round it up to the nearest number.

The card you described has a 992,000 kb capacity, so it's pretty close to 1 GB.

1 GB=1024 MB
1 MB=1024 KB
so 1 GB =1024X1024 =1048576KB
