I have recently started dating an African man. He has treated me with the upmost respect so far. But every time I tell someone he's African they tell me to watch out because African men are very possesive. Should I let this persuade my decision to continue seeing him?

I am an African American male. I am not possesive. My brother is an African American male. He is possesive. Guess what that means. It doesn't depend on the color but the person. This is a sad stereotype. If you want to know a person, find out how he was raised and what were his past relationships like. Don't lump us all together please.......

They can be very possessive, as in most of those countries, women are second class citizens, or worse. Just watch a few TV shows, and see how the women are treated. Give it the acid test, and tell him you are going to a movie with another man, and watch for his reaction. don't make any long term arrangements, there are too many cultural differences.
