I am traveling to my home country (Peru) this summer to get braces, I am 15 years old. they are not horribly crooked but far from perfect. I will only be in the country for 1 month, is this enough time to get braces or will I have to get some treatment here and the rest there?

I am doing this over there because my family cannot afford health insurance while we have platinum level insurance back home.

I meant if one month is enough to get them on. I know it will probably take much longer than that to fix the teeth.

I got my braces 5 months ago. It will depend on your treatment. I had to spend a whole month getting all my cavities first and also removing a couple of teeth that needed to be extracted before they could proceed to place the brackets.

I understand why your family is doing this. However, you still have to go once a month or every 5 weeks to get the braces adjusted for at least 18 months. How will your family cover for this expense?

Depending on where you live there is some affordable dental care plans. I live in California and there is a place (where I got them) that offers great payment plans for all kind of pockets and budgets. Have your parents look into this. They offer their own insurance plan (very affordable!!) and they don't require a credit check (just in case your parents don't have perfect credit) and they are very affordable.

I hope this information is helpful to you!

Having braces is a timely and painful process. It doesn't matter if you have a severe case or a mild one. One month will not be enough time to straighten your teeth. Generally once a month you will have to have a tightening and you'll have to have other periodical checkups and cleanings. You're most likely looking at atleast a year or so of going to the dentist, as it is a gradual process to straighten teeth. So, no you will not be able to take care of all your dental work in your home country if you are only staying for one month.

It will be enough time to get them on. You'll need more treatment than that, though! You may want to look into something called invisaline. (I think that's how you spell it) from what I understand, these are clear tray-like devices that fit into your mouth that you change every so often and each one corrects your teeth a little more. You may be able to get by with one month if you're using devices that you change yourself.
