Help! I'm the maid of honor in my friends wedding. The wedding is April 14th. My bridesmaid dress doesn't fit. I can't take it back to where I got it from because they don't do returns or exchanges. I was measured so that when the dress was made it was supposed to be the right size. But it's not! It's a halter dress and I can't get the zipper all the way up in the back. Is there anything a tailor can do to fix it or am I screwed?!

Been working out... my husband has lost all the weight - I haven't! I've been in denial about it not fitting, but I bit the bullet and tried it on earlier and now I'm really freaking out!

well keep workin out that can't hurt, plus you wanna have a great figure in that dress, you still have more than enough time to trim down a little....

if the dress is made of something without a sheer overlay odds are you can have it let out, but prolly not by much, 1/2 inch on both sides if your lucky....however, if you have a sheer overlay on the dress, thats out becuase they don't allow seam allowance on the sheer seams because the excess fabric shows through. My bridesmaids dresses have the sheer on them is how I know b/c the lady at the shop told them all to order a size up to insure they could get it to fit, because letting out was not and option....you do have some hope, but I would get to a tailor immediately if not sooner, this is a very popular time of year for alterations with proms and all!

If it was measured to fit and now it does not, then they did not do their job. You are perfectly within your rights to go back and have them correct their error. No returns or exchanges has more to do with cancelled weddings or deciding you want a different dress altogether. Now if the dress is not fitting because of a change in weight or pregnancy, then you are on your own. You can ask them if they have tailoring services to add a panel or two to the back in order to make it fit. Or you may have to hunt down a match for the material at the fabric store and have a tailor work some magic. At worst you'll have to buy another dress, perhaps child's dress) made form the same material to be used as scrap for yours. Good Luck!

There are many options. First, try creative underwear. There are lots of undergarments that pull things in and push them up to where you need them to go. If that isn't enough, try tailoring. A good tailor should be able to let the fabric out just enough to make the zipper go. If you look on the inside of the dress where the seams are, there should be excess fabric. If there isn't, call whoever made the dress and cuss them out for all they are worth. They're supposed to leave room for alterations. Keep working out whether you lose weight or not. Its just healthy and will help your stress level. If all else fails, its not too late to try and get another dress. It might cost, and it will be a push for time, but you might can get it done in time. Good luck.

Did you gain weight? If so, you have a few options. Go to the bridal store and schedule an appointment with the seamstress. Sometimes there is enough material by the zipper and seams to take it out enough. Or, you might have to buy extra fabric (about $20). The seamstress can just add the material to where you need it. You might have to order a new dress and pay for rush shipping. Schedule this appointment now. Don't wait!

Also, where you got the dress matters. If you got the dress at David's Bridal, you CAN exchange the dress. They'll just add it to the racks of dresses that are already there for people to try on. You might have to talk to a manager, but you can do it.

Or, did the salesperson measure you wrong, and you didn't gain weight? If this is the case, then you most certainly can exchange the dress at any bridal store. Just be firm and don't take their crap about it, but don't be mean either.

Have you expirmented with some different foundation garments? Sometimes trying a different bra or support/slimming garment can change the fit of a dress. Take the dress with you and go to a department store such as Macy's, or Nordstroms. Expirement with several styles of foundation garments to see what works best. Spanx http://www.spanx.com/pls/enetrixp/!stmenu_template.main are worth the money!

If that doesn't work, then take the dress to a tailor or seamstress who specializes in alterations. They will be able to take a look at the dress and see where they can let it out, or if it's even possible to let it out. Don't take the dress to the dry cleaner's around the corner that hems your pants. They may not have the expierence or knowledge of how to alter the dress.

You're probably building muscle in place of the fat, which is GREAT! Just not when it comes to this dress.
How much of a gap do you have? A tailor might be able to put an insert on either side seam, so it will be less noticeable since your arms will cover them, so you can get through the wedding comfortably. But I'd call one r-e-a-l soon.
Should find one in the phone book, ask around or go to a department store. Or even a men's suit store; those tailors can work miracles!

Take it to a tailor to let it out. The room that is between the zipper they will adjust that space and maybe cut down that zipper some to let some room out, but you can also get a good bodyshaper that is two sizes to small and wear it and take it off after the wedding.

well your best bet is to call around asking all of the tailors in your area that question! i'm sure one of them may come up with a solution. they may not get the halter 100% perfect to fit which is to be expected but i'm sure they could fix it enough to atleast get the zipper to go all the way to the top!!

I think you can get it tailored one of my cousins didn't fit into her dress and the other cousin the dress was too long so they cut it to her length and used the extra material to add a little to the other dress. Don't worry it should be fixable!

Probably not. You will have to go on a diet (cut out all fried foods, excess sugars, sodas that aren't diet, and bread/pastas, and greatly reduce fat intake). Ask a local trainer at a gym for exercise to help reduce the areas where the dress doesn't fit. Good luck!
