If you already know her then find out something she likes to do, or wants to do, and say something like "Hey I'm going to see (insert movie here) on Friday, do you want to come with me?" that way it's a date, but if she declines it won't be obvious that you were directly asking her out.
If you don't know her, totally be bold! There's nothing sexier than a confident guy who approaches a girl, and gets what he wants. Don't be corny or anything, just start up a conversation about whatever, and at the end look her in the eyes, and be like "is it okay if I asked you out sometime?"
