are you using perment dye or semi permenent?. cuz my hair is dark browish/black and I did blond with a permenent blonde dye and it worked. It might be the brand too. I bought a cheap one dye and it didn't work well but then when i bought clariol and loreal they worked better.

About the only way you are going to get your hair a lighter color is by going to a professional salon. Have a stylist start by highlighting your hair. After your hair is hightlighted a few times, then it will be easier to maintain a light brown. Do deep conditioning treatments once a week and your hair will be fine and will stay healthy.

I recomend for a deep conditioning treatment, use either Joico K-pak or Redken Silk Fuel. Leave the treatment on for at least 15 minutes, rinse with cool water so it will close the hair shaft and your hair will feel silky smooth and healthy.

If you only dyed it once a year ago, much of it would have grown out by now. Is your hair naturallly dark?

You could chop off the old end parts and just leave your natural grow underneath, otherwise you are going to have to treat it to get it lighter.

Hasn't your hair grown out over a year?
Try a short cut that matchs up with where the roots are.
