I can't open the browser. It says this: "Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system."
I don't have any Firefox process on the task list and restarting didn't work. :(
So...what do I do now?

You won't see Firefox in the Task list. You need to click on the Processes button / Tab, and End Process on firefox.exe .

Open task manager
right click on taskbar > select task manager or cntl alt delete

Open applications tab. Click on to highlight Firefox line. Click button "end task".
-----------------------------------------
If you have problems with Firefox crashing you may have a bad add-on.

Start in safe mode:
Start - All programs- Mozilla Firefox- "Mozilla Firefox (safe mode)”

Disable all add-ons. If it now runs fine you have a bad add-on.
Enable add-ons one at a time until you find a bad one. Then uninstall it.

See: Safe Mode options in Firefox
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode

--------------------------------------------------------
If this does not work you will may need to uninstall Firefox.
Save your bookmarks, passwords, Addblock settings, NoScript settings, etc. first.

If you can, install and run: Firefox Extension Backup Extension (FEBE)
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/2109/

"FEBE backs up your extensions, themes, and (optionally) your bookmarks, preferences, passwords, cookies and just about everything else Firefox offers."

After you uninstall Firefox, run "Windows Live OneCare" "Full Service Scan" to clean up system.

Then reinstall Firefox.

hit ctrl alt delete to bring up the taskmanager. Go to the process tab, and end process of firefox.exe. There could be more than one if you kept trying to start it up. Then start up firefox as usual.

It's never a bad idea to uninstall and reinstall any programs that aren't working. It may have just been a glitch in the installation.
