What is the subtraction fromula on excel?

I am trying to subtract one value from another, I know the adding one, you simply do the "SUM.." but how do you subtract?

cell A1 is 12
cell A2 is 10

so in cell A3 =a1-a2 once you hit enter it will show the result not the formula.

There is no speacial function for substraction as you do not know in the range which is less than the other. All you need to do is to

example:
=A1-B1

you can just type it out. in the cell you want the answer, just type "=a1-a2" or whatever cells the data is in.
