He was an outside and inside cat and he always came back home when sunset and had his dinner and stayed inside until morning. One night he did not come home and I never saw him again.

I once had a neutered male cat that used to take off for a week at a time. He eventually would find his way home. All banged up with cuts and digs all over him. It's just their nature to take off like that. You didn't say how long kitty was gone for. I'd say don't give up on him. Go out and look for him, ask neighbors if they have seen him. It might be a good idea to call your local ACO to see if he was picked up. You could call the humane society if there is one near you. Call some shelters too, by chance he might have gotten picked up by someone. See why my cats are all indoor cats? I hope this helps and I really hope you can find your cat soon.

Well it could be a couple of things. There could of been another cat in heat he smelled far away. or if you lived in a busy area with lots of cars or even family's. Some people see a cat and if it's nice and calm they might just take it in as if it was there own. unfortunately it happens a lot.

Cats tend to wander,it is not unusual for them to find another place to adopt where they have food and shelter,he might come back when you least expect it,or I'm sorry to say it could be that he's gone to cat heaven.

thats a chance you take when your cat goes in and out. any number of things could have happened. was he neutered? thats a huge reason male cats roam. roaming gets kitties into trouble.

Probably a predator got him.
Or someone thought he was a stray and took him to the pound, or brought him inside.
That's what happens when you let kitties roam.
