How long is each brach of the military's enlistment contract? In other words how long does one have to serve in each branch. I know for the marines, it's 4 years active and 4 years inactive. But what about the rest? Also, what is the shortest enlistment time the military offers? Where can i find out more about all this info? I checked military.com but didn't see anything regarding this question. Thanks

You are obligated a total of 8 years of service...Typically, you serve 4 active years and 4 years inactive (available for recall). Most people sign up for 4 years active duty; although recruiters will entice an offer to you for a 6 year active duty and 2 year inactive contract. In return you may come out of bootcamp a paygrade higher or leave home with a pay grade higher.

I am Active Duty Coast Guard and I have see almost every side of the military except for the Air Force...

Anthony

Your total initial contract will be 8 years combined active/ inactive service. The shortest active service tour is 2 years.....I believe only the Navy offers the 2 year enlistment; but the Coast Guard might also. If you really want to know....just open up the phone book and look up the closest Recruiting Office.

I was active for 6 and inactive for 2 (Navy).

Normally it is 4 and 4 but I had to extend because my school was so long...I was an electronics tech and my school was a year and a half.

About every one has an 8 year contract divided into active and inactive. You can choose how you want to divide it, up to 6 years active.

Noramally its 4 and 4...but certain jobs at least for the Navy require you to join for a longer time. When I joined I got 4 and 4, someone else got 3 and 5, and one girl got 6 and 6!

Call a recruiter and sign up son.
I think the army and the marines are going to be short a few people after tomorrow after the 60 minutes show
