Genesis, Chapter No. 4, Verse No. 12, it says… ‘God told Cain: you will never be able to settle you will be a wanderer.’ Few Verses later on Genesis, Chapter No. 4, Verse No.17, says…‘Cain built up a city’

Jesus told you about Moses, all them that where before me were thieves and robbers

I know this seems contradictory but God was speaking of Cain's situation at that moment. He would no longer be welcome in his home with his family; he would have to leave. In that sense he would become a restless wanderer. But God blessed him by forgiving him for his vengeance and allowed him to settle in Nod. This story is supposed to represent human being's rebellion from God's word.

He was sent away because he killed his Brother.. this was his punishment to be away from his family and wander about. Cain thought this was too much to bare to be sent away and was worried that he might be killed so God put a mark on him so he would not be killed and if he was, then they would suffer 7 times what Cain did.

this could possibly refer to the constant growth that is required to live a "farming" life...

farming requires you to move to new, nutrient rich fields periodically, and often requires you to keep growing and growing in size.
