It's Ok to give a cat a bath, though most of them don't like it much and you shouldn't do it unless the cat really needs it. If he just has dirty paws, you can wipe them off with a wet towel or wash cloth, if he doesn't take care of it himself.

re: is it wrong to give a cat a bath?
Not if that's what you got them used to from an early age. My cat was groomed starting at 8 weeks with a soft toothbrush by the breeder. Not actually given a bath until 12 -16 weeks. (Show cats get baths frequently and always before competitions.

My cat loved being in a sink bath with warm water. Because that what we got her accustomed to. I would spray her to remove the soap. Then she would get blown dry. She loved that more.

I personally think that springing a bath on an older cat could be traumatic and or upsetting. And if a bath was needed for health reasons you can always get something from your vet to keep her calm.

Re:Keep the cat inside when the ground is muddy if dirty paws are an issue. (The cat doesn't clean it's own paws?)
Or check out that liquid they sell in the pet stores that people use on animals that have white faces. It takes the brown tear stains off the fur under their eyes. It might also work on dirty cats paws.???

leave the poor thing alone. The cat will clean it's own paws. It's an animal, it's going to get dirty. I guess you let it out, which is not such a great idea, but if you do, make sure it has all it's shots and flea and tick collar. As far as washing the cat, you can do it, but cat isn't going to be happy and you will just end up with a lot of claw marks and the cat will just go out and get dirty again. These are paws, not shoes. Don't worry about the paws, better dirty paws then you full of scratch marks.

There's nothing wrong with giving cats a bath, but if you've never given it one before, be prepared for a battle. We have one that is so prissy, she will not wash herself when she wants her bath. She is little over a year and has been bathed monthly for most of her life. If the cats gives you a fight, try using a wash cloth and wash the paws only. There are also sprays that can be used to give a bath with, you just spray the area needed and wipe with a towel.

I have a cat with one white paw... I use non-scented baby wipes.

As for the bathing of a cat... if you cat likes water like one of mine does, he will not mind a bath. Most cats do not like water and will only enter into a wet moment if there is danger!

I hope this helps, let me know how you get on!

Well I don't give my cat a bath because he is mostly brown and balck , so I don't notice all of his dirt that much. But giving your cat a light bath might be ok. Try to take a wet- paper towel and cleaning his paws like that.

I would bet you are not keeping up on flea control. Use Advantage every month and I bet his feet will stay clean. I am amazed at how many cats come in to our spotless boarding facility and we see muddy looking foot prints all around the room after a few days. This is a tell tell sign of fleas. Cats will always keep there feet clean unless it is invested with fleas. This is the flea dirt and sweat off of his paws mixed together.

there is nothing wrong with giving a cat a bath if done right, a forceful and stressed out bath can damage you car emotionally. My mother succeeded in doing this the right way and now both her cats are eager for bath day and sit and enjoy it very much, neither need to be held down nor do they get upset. She took a lot of time and patience to make it less stressful. One time he even got in the shower with me and expected me to bath him. It was very cute. Good Luck
