If you want to be a trooper check out their website. If you have a particular department in mind you should call and ask. Each town has varying requirements. Most likely you will need a couple of years of college, at least, and a clean record.

Go to your local police station ---- the cheif may be able to give you some answers. He may fill you in on some of the qualifications and requirements also.

One road to take is ..... become qualified and apply to be a reserve officer locally. That will give you some experience in Traffic and Crowd control / working at events and perhaps during emergencies. It will allow you t become familiar with many of the local officers and their duties and tactics.

Then when an opening on the force occurs .... you will have some contacts and perhaps a foot in the door.

All new jersey police departments require you to take and pass the new jersey civil service test, the higher the score the better chances you have. Then as openings come up at different cities you can apply. Look online for the new jersey civil service test first and see when they are giving it again, it usually only happens every two years.

First off have you gone to college and gotten a degree in Law Enforcement ??? If you have, then contact the local police dept in NJ and they will have all the info you need. I think the cut off is 45 yrs old. ( you also have to have a physical and almost perfect 20/40 vision.)

depends if you want city county or state, state trooper requires a 4 year degree. you need to check with your local municipality to find out when they are giving the test and what thier requirements are. i highly recommend you begin with community college for criminal justice. atlantic cape community has a good criminal justice program. lincoln tech also has a good one with placement assistance. most departments reuire a 2 year degree - and ages 18-30
