I take it one step further and consider it utterly useless.

Good approach. The early Church applied the same principle to their interpretation of Scripture. If you study the writings of theologians spanning the first 1000 years of Christian history, you will find that the Bible was always used as a reference to extract philosophical lessons or confirm religious paradigms. It was never used as a "rule book," and it was seldom, if ever, interpreted literally word-for-word. Modern Protestants like Hal Lindsey make a great point of this, and insist that the first generation of Christians corrupted the Gospel by interpreting Scripture allegorically. But the truth is that the Jews were applying the same method to the Old Testament long before the advent of Christianity, and the Christians simply followed suit.

Many people are surprised to learn that some of the greatest theologians in the history of Christianity rejected the literal six-day creation, the universal Flood of Noah, the idea that unbelievers go to hell for eternity, and all of the other issues that critics raise against the Bible as written.

The Bible makes much more sense when you find a Pastor who studies the original languages.
I have just been studying a passage written in the 5th century BC, dramatic Greek .
"God for us, Who against us"?
The Greek language leaves out the definite article for a more dramatic effect.
When translators translate the Bible from the original they add stuff that is not there.
Log on to the website in my source and order some of the many books, tapes, DVDS, MP3's for free.
It will open a whole new world of Theology.
Peace out.

I believe the ideas were inspired. This means you have to get into the word and understand the true context. Because there are some things that seem to contradict each other, unless you truly understand what the writers meant. Each word was not penned by God. But I still believe the stories were literal and factual.

Because you don't have the original New Testament. The Bible people have today is the one that King Constantine put together with a click of scribes to control the citizens. If you are a sincere seeker of truth then go to gospelofthenazirenes.c It has the original teachings of Christ Before Constantine burned them. One was found hidden by the original Christian Essenes.

I believe it word-for-word because I just don't see how some of it could be true but not all of it. If I couldn't trust all the verses then I couldn't believe any of it. The prophecies have come true and it just cuts deep down into you when you read to where you can see it is the truth.

I believe the Bible As written, it is the word of God and I believe that God has enough integrity to make sure it is done to his standards.

And YES I do read it everyday. Wouldn't have a normal or productive day without it.
