My nephew was in the hospital this weekend and I realized that many babies and children were also sick. We're usually an absurdly healthy family, I've only been to the hospital 3 times in my life and those were for family pregancies. I never thought about the kids in hospitals until this weekend. I think I'd like to volunteer with kids or something like that. I used to do VISTA and set up monthly kids activities and working with kids was a lot of fun. I think I'l like to do something similar. I also felt sorry for some of the babies whohad no one to hold them, unlike my nephew who had at least 2 people sitting with him most of the time. I was in the NCU with my sister and sometimes a baby would cry and the nurses wouldn't come immediately. They're busy and can't come running every time a baby cries. There were volunteers to hold babies when they cried so I wonder if I should volunteer for that. Does anyone volunteer in hospitals who can tell me about it?

I started volunteering in hospitals as a teen, and it was a very rewarding experience, and a great way to learn about the healthcare field. I'm now working in a management position in healthcare, so it was a great building block for my career as well.

The volunteer experience then and now are relatively similar. Volunteers help out in various capacities usually coordinated by a central volunteer office. They are responsible for supplementing patient transportation, visitor escorts, delivery of flowers and packages, helping with minor administrative work, helping our at reception and information desks, and various other duties.

If you are interested in starting up with a hospital volunteer program, most hospitals have a central Volunteer Office, but if they do not, check with the Community Relations, Auxilliary Office, or Human Resources. Most hospitals depend upon volunteers for various tasks throughout the organization.

you're making a impressive distinction. Your foot is unquestionably interior the door. at present, it would not count number what you do, in simple terms see you later as you do some thing. They comprehend you is in simple terms no longer doing mind surgical treatment. they're searching for the life journey except sitting on the settee playing Halo for 16 hours an afternoon. LOL! Hospitals, faculties and different places are searching for for individuals prepared to take position and put in the time. actually everyone starts out doing little issues. once you tutor your self there, then you're given extra to blame initiatives...and hey - a minimum of you're not to any extent further cleansing bogs or mattress pans. If that wellbeing facility especially asks volunteers to assist human beings to and from their vehicles and the foyer, they legitimately favor someone doing that. The journey is all round you. once you deal with someone proper, greet them and/or cause them to smile...each element you spot and pay interest to is a clean journey for you...getting to charm to close docs, nurses, crew may also help you community in a lengthy time period... you in effortless words are not seeing this for what it really is...a small step down the line you're searching for.

I think you have a great idea. My son was in the hospital for emergency surgery for 2 weeks and it was so sad to hear the kids crying whose parents were not able to stay with them. We were with my son 24/7 but for some parents, that is not possible.
Call your local hospital and ask about their training program. They usually have training programs 1 or 2 times a year.
Warning though, most people want to work with children and many times hospitals need volunteers to spend time with older patients.
