It depends on the vet but an over night stay is not usually required.

This really depends on what your vet does. I will tell you that most vets do not have staff overnight to watch the dogs. I myself would not leave a dog after a neuter at a vet unless there was staff on during the night to watch the dog. I would much rather have that dog at home so that I could keep an eye on him and bring him to the emergency vet in the middle of the night if there were any post-op problems.

It depends on the vet and the dog.
Generally, the smaller the breed, the more chance of complications and your vet may want to keep them overnight for observations.
My Roscoe (yorkie) was neutered early in the am, but my vet would not let me pick him up until he had eaten and had a bowel movement, "just to sure everything was working okay". It made me feel better about leaving him and him having the surgery.
Good luck.

It all depends on your veterinarian and the owner of the dog. I have had some owners who absolutely insist their dog must stay over and others who want them home the same nite. For the most part, anywhere I have ever worked we very rarely keep neuters overnite unless the surgery was done very late in the day and the pet was not awake enough to go home or there was a complication or risk that required the dog stay over nite to be observed for 24 hours.

As said before it depends on the vet/dog.
I took my dog to the vet early in the morning and picked her up in the late afternoon.
But the vet had told me before hand if they saw any problems during the surgery, or how she reacted to it, then they would keep her overnight.
Definately plan on a sleepy puppy. Mine was only groggy the rest of that day then back to her craziness the next day which made keeping the stitches intact... interesting :)

If the spay or neuter goes normally and the dog has no complications then you can usually pick him or her up later the same day and take the dog home. The vet will send home instructions as to how you should care for the dog for its recovery period and also if it has to come back in for stitch removal.

Some do some don't. I for one don't let my dog spend the night. No one is there to watch over them if something should happen. Not at my vet anyway. They claim they come in and check on them but do they really. I have it done real early in the morning that way I can bring my dog home around 2 or 3 in the afternoon. No one can watch them better than I can. My dog sleeps with me over night ..well he sleeps I don't . I am up keeping my eye on him.

It's different with each vet. We got out first dog spayed at the Human Society and they kept her over night. Then we moved and had our second dog spayed by a vet and they sent her home the same day. Dogs are really groggy afterwards.

Males almost always go home the same day as long as there is no complications (rare). Females often go home the same day now, but some places will keep them overnigt if they have staff around to keep an eye on things.
