My bf and I have been dating for 6 months (we're both in school together). He dated his ex for 3 years. She lives across the country. He may be offered an internship in his hometown, where she works. He told me tonight that he's worried that if he goes home for the summer, they will get back together. He said he loves me and really cares about me, but that she has been a huge part of his life, so he thinks that it's a legitimate possibility that they'd get back together since he'd be so far away from me and spending time with her. He said he doesn't want to hurt me, he could just see things falling back into old habits. He also said if he stays here for the summer, there's no doubt in his mind that we'll keep dating. I'm not sure what to think. On the one hand, I appreciate his honesty, but what am I supposed to do? I mean, I guess there's a chance I'd get back with my ex if we were in the same city. Is this weird? What should I do?

Oh, boy... Yeah, he's honest but he doesn't seem to value the relationship with you. He might be having illusions that his ex is waiting for him, too. "He said that it's a legitimate possibility that they'd get back together since he'd be so far away from me and spending time with her." I don't like how it reads... If he's planning to spend time with her - he pretty much plans to get back together with her. He's playing games with you. What exacly he expects to hear? "Oh, yeah, honey, give it a try with your ex, I'll be waiting for you"? Tell him that you might dump him because there is a legitimate possibility that you'll meet someone else. What kind of crap is he giving you? "legitimate possibility"....

My honest opinion.. sorry hun but he's a selfish idiot, but an honest one. If he loved you as much as he thinks his ex would not even be a concern.. Love yourself more and loose his sorry ****. Even if he does stay with you, he's going to leave you for someone else eventually.If he's so sure he might get back with his ex just because they live in the same town, he's just not into you hun. Find someone who is, cause you deserve it.

its as simple as what makes you happy, if your positive about it, you wll get what you want, but if hes assuming that this girl is going to just go back with him then maybe hes being a little faithless with your relationship with him, it might not be meant to be, but then again, him and his ex might not be meant to be either so don't sweat it just yet, have a talk with him about it, moving on might just be the least painful, if not you might just end up waiting for him and getting hurt, i hope this helps, good luck girl

I don't think it's strange. He probably wouldn't see you almost at all and it's pretty hard to have a long distance relationship. If he still loves her, let him be with her if he moves.
