Northern California has so many options it's amazing. Saltwater angling on party boats out of Berkley and San Francisco are a blast. You can fish for everything from Salmon (in season) to stripers, halibut, rock fish or shark. Great sport.

In land the Delta is one the most consistent producers of trophy largemouth bass in the country. You'd want a guide to take you to good spots. Clear lake in Lake County is awesome.

In the foothills there are tons of lakes with excellent shore fishing. Comanche, Pardee, Amador. (Amador is an EXCELLENT small lake for huge bass and nice trout, with good shore fishing and inexpensive boat rentals)

In the mountains trout fishing in summer in streams and lakes is a blast and can be very very good. Around Tahoe try Alpine county, there are more streams than you can name some are open to all fishing, some fly and artificial baits only.

Your best bet is to get a guide book at a book store and read about some options and techniques. Then keep track of the fishing report in paper. The Chron and Bee have good ones.

It's a great place to fish, good luck.
