Honestly, there is no such thing as an "Assault Weapon" in informed firearms vocabulary. It is a term invented by anti-gun politicians, lobbyist and journalists to invoke fear among the uninformed public. A brick or a baseball bat, weilded by an attacker, is an "assault weapon".

There is such a thing as an "assault rifle". The term was coined in Germany WWII to describe the new breed of fully automatic capable carbines that shoot a smaller round than the traditional battle rifle and were developed for their parachute and strike forces.
The Russians saw first hand the usefulness of this new breed of light automatic carbine and quickly developed the AK-47 based on this German design.
It wasn't until 15 years later that the American military saw the future and started to develop an even more advanced assault rifle and Eugene Stoner at Armalite designed what would become the AR-16 or M16.
Note that these weapons are called Selective Fire, which means the shooter can switch between full automatic and semi automatic.
A civilian semi-automatic only version of the M16 was developed and is know as the AR15.
In the US, to own a fully automatic waepon, you need to have a federal license and an additional stamp for the weapon itself. These are not cheap and they are selective about who they give them to. In reality, the US has a much smaller percentage of fully automatic weapons in civilian hands than most countries in the world.

nicely, as others have noted, there looks a distinction in opinion as to the definition of "attack Weapon". there is the single that maximum militaries throughout the time of the international use after which there is the single the Democrats use. in the event that they bypass a sparkling AWB, it extremely is going to probable have a grandfather clause in it allowing weapons and magazines synthetic ahead of the ban to be offered by sellers. you may guess, in spite of the undeniable fact that, that those weapons and upload-ons will carry suited $$. They did after the 1st biden/Clinton AWB. no person will comprehend till if and whilst a sparkling bill is handed. If a bill isn't handed, there will be some very irate anti-gun communities. no rely if it extremely is handed, there will be some Dems out of a activity after the subsequent election. thankfully, they supply the impact of being to have adequate on their plate at the instant and adequate bear in mind what got here approximately after the final one grow to be handed (they have been given fired). All that should definitely substitute in a heartbeat with a Columbine or l. a. Shootout type experience.

This may not be the answer you are looking for but it is the one sure to get you the correct information.

Check with the state. No offense to anybody, but with something that has this much potential for getting you into major trouble, get the rules from an official Alabama source.

There ain't none, boy. This here's the SOUTH.

It IS legal to own a machine gun in Alabama, provided that you are legally allowed to own guns, and you pay the Federal transfer tax and pass the background checks.

However, the AR-15 is not a machine gun.

Don’t buy the liberal lies. So called assault weapons aren't machine guns. They only fire one bullet with every pull of the trigger.
Machine guns are legal in most states if you get approval from the Atf and pay for the tax stamp.

Fully automatic rifles are illegal even in Alabama... so don't go around showing it to the cops down there unless they're your huntin' buddies.
