My grandma's dad (my great grandfather) just died yesterday and when we got to the hospital, my grandma was crying so much and I've never heard her cry before. I couldnt even stay in the room with her and the body. this is so new to me, we havent had a death in the family since before I was born. when I see her, what can I say to her? I want to hug her for a long time, but what do I say?

Just the long, tight, loving hug should reassure her that even though her beloved father is no longer able to hug her, she's got one terrific granddaughter who can, and will.

Since I don't know your precise circumstances, I don't know what is suitable, but I can give you some suggestions

You can say, "I love you grandma, and I am so sorry that you lost your father." You can say, "Oh, grandma, aren't we lucky that he lived such a long life, I'm sure gonna miss him." You can say, "Don't worry grandma, you still have us, we love you very much."

I'm sorry for your loss, honey. How sweet that you are concerned with making your grandma feel better. You are a good person. Your grandma must really appreciate you.

You give her that long hug,and say nothing. When she's ready to talk about it you'll know. The mistake most people make is trying to find something to say. When the best thing to do is nothing. If you say anything, make it short.Very short.(Every things going to be OK Grandma.
