I have tried Klonopin...the first time I was on it, it was okay but the second attempt at it I reacted just the opposite as I should have. I got more anxious....a paradoxal effect.
I recommend Xanax. It doesn't have any nasty side effects and as long as you use it wisely you do not become addicted to it as some people might lead you to believe. I am on 2 mgs. I can take that amount up to 3 times per day but I take it as needed.
Ativan is another antianxiety drug you can try. It works pretty much like Xanax but I have heard it can potentially cause weight gain...
Try to stay away from multipurpose meds for anxiety like Klonopin...that one is also used in seizure disorder. Stick to something simple...

Klonopin is the med of choice for anxiety judging from its frequent presciption from professional sources. Xanax is a close second. To get to sleep read this:
Hello, just wanted to let you know of a miracle pill that puts you to sleep, available over the counter, is actually very very beneficial for your health, the health of your brain and is only 3 bucks!! I had trouble falling asleep for years. I would lay in bed, and think and think and think for hours before I could fall asleep. It was literally driving me crazy!! I had tried every over the counter sleeping pill on the market and nothing helped. I turned to Nyquil and that did the trick. I had been drinking Nyquil almost every night to go to sleep until I stumbled upon this miracle sanity saving nutritional supplement named MELATONIN. And you can buy it at any GNC health food store. I advocate GNC because the melatonin they use goes through 85 different quality checks before its bottled. Buy the sublingual melatonin. The kind that dissolves underneath your tongue tastes like cherries and it’s good for you!! If you have any questions before you buy it the sales associate at GNC should be able to answer any questions you have. It comes in 1 mg, I take 2 right before bed. The only side effects are weird dreams for the first two nights if any at all. Should be taken at regular bedtimes in the evening.
God Bless
P.S. after you try it and it works don’t forget to tell others about it. You could be saving someone else’s Sanity

Please avoid the medications, I was on Paxil for about 10 years, have been off of it for about a year and at times, the anxiety is worse than it was before. Sure, it worked at first and I thought it was great, but there is so much they don't tell you, a lot the doctors don't even know about. It stopped working for me and the option was to increase my dosage. I thought "then what?" keep increasing the dosage whenever it stops working? I never realized that I could be on it for LIFE! I decided to stop taking it altogether, I was weaned off of it, and that took about a year.
My panic attacks come in the morning, I wake up right in the middle of it. The best I can do is ride it out. I do get them throughout the day at times, again, I just try to get busy DOING something, laundry, walk the dog, do dishes, ANYTHING till it passes.
Go to "antidepressantsfacts.com" there is a lot of information about all of the anti-anxiety, antidepressants out there. PLEASE exhaust every other alternative before being medicated.

See your MD. I prefer Tranxene but he may prefer others that are probably just as good.
Don't bother with Niquil. The sedative in it is alcohol. Melatonin will easily bring out depression in you if you have any such tendency. Xanax will do this also, but in fewer people. Amy antihistamine, OTC, like Benadryl, will put you to sleep but you will not awaken as rested as you would from a natural sleep. For myself, I have an earplug with the other end of the cord in a radio and listen to news and comment stations and try to stay interested. I stay awake about as long as i would in any lecture.

I know that you need these meds, but be careful and educate yourself about them as well please. I have anxiety attacks too. My Dr. prescribed Xanax which I only take on rare occasions, it just makes me feel better to know that I have it in case I need it. It's a mind thing I guess. I take Zoloft everyday, it's more of a long term treatment.

Be EXTREMELY CAREFUL taking Xanax or other anti-anxiety medication because they are EXTREMELY ADDICTING. Try to only take what is prescribed and talk to your Doctor about the possibility of eventually weaning yourself off these anti-anxiety medications.

Valium helped me for a good while till i became addicted to it, then my Dr changed my meds to 300mg of Effexor at morning & 150mg of Prothiaden at nite time for sleep, i now sleep at least 10 hours & am managing my anxiety & panic attacks & depression, i also found Zyprexa helpful but its not a good idea as i gained weight while on it & now i have difficulty in losing these extra pounds. good luck

I just posted regarding this a few moments ago. For me Celexa works GREAT. 10mg 4-5 times a week- takes the edge off and relaxes the mind. Look into it.

Try a anti-depressant that takes off the edge and relaxes. There are several brands Tradazone, Remeron. Make sure you are very specific when describing the symptoms to him/her
