I accidentally reformatted the hard drive, but killed the computer in the middle of the recovery program so that my data would not be erased. Is there some flavor of Linux that I can use to recover the data from my Windows partition?

you are probably screwed, but if you hook up the drive to another computer as a slave drive you can see if there is anything on it

Most likely no. you can connect it as a slave on another computer and hope that there is still information there. Most likely that computer will tell you that the hd is not format it yet and that if you wish to format now. I don't understand how can you have format it accidentally unless it was not your master hd otherwise it won't let you because that's where your system OS is installed.

well good luck but don't get your hopes up.

If the information you want to retrieve was in the part that was formatted it's gone forever. Sorry.
