Yes it is true, geletin if from the middle of the bones I believe but not the bones themselves. Ever made a round steak and the little round bone has like a geletin inside? Its like that.

On a commercial scale, gelatin is made from by-products of the meat and leather industry, mainly pork skins, pork and cattle bones, or split cattle hides. Recently, by-products of the fishery industry began to be considered as raw material for gelatin production because they eliminate most of the religious obstacles surrounding gelatin consumption. Contrary to popular belief, horns and hooves are not commonly used. The raw materials are prepared by different curing, acid, and alkali processes which are employed to extract the dried collagen hydrolysate. These processes may take up to several weeks, and differences in such processes have great effects on the properties of the final gelatin products.

Gelatin can also be prepared at home. Boiling certain cartilaginous cuts of meat or bones will result in gelatin being dissolved into the water. Depending on the concentration, the resulting broth, when cooled, will naturally form a jelly or gel.

hello! interesting you should ask that, i just did a study about it last year. actually, collagen is extracted from the bones in order for the gelatin to be more, well, gel-like. This collagen is also the reason why you get a jelly-like substance from left-over bouillon in the fridge. however, some gelatin are actually made from aquatic plant extracts (i suppose that is the vegan alternative) :) hope that helped!

other answers are correct about the bones and hooves. am familiar with a local beef slaughterhouse, and everything is used except for the hair on the end of the tail. just don't think about it when you eat it. also, don't think about what's in that hotdog or sausage you ate recently.

Yes it is true... but it's not the actual bones itself. It's bone marrow from the inside of the bone that they use to make it with. There's no actual bone in it just a biproduct.
