If your dog is very young it will most definatly learn your different tones of voice. If it is a dog that you have had for a while, then yes it does know. My dog can tell my moods just by my facial expressions its pretty wild.

My experience is that dogs are hyper sensitive and very intelligent. Of course they would register with an annoyed voice. Dont people get it? I dont think that dogs deserve to have hurt feelings, but as long as you use a good and fun voice the rest of the time, when you are annoyed it is appropriate.

Yes he can tell. Dogs are highly sensitive to intonation. They can tell your happy voice apart from your angry voice apart from your sad voice, etc. For instance, if I use the same intonation that I use to praise my dog when speaking to my cat, my dog gets veeery jealous and starts whining and brushing up against me to get my attention. Cats, on the other hand-- I don't think they notice intonation. When I yell at my cat for doing something bad, she just stares back at me, very non-plussed.
And of course dogs have feelings. My dog very clearly goes through different moods, depending on how his health is, how much attention he's getting, etc.

That depends. If that tone of voice is followed by consequences (being put in crate or game over of any kind) then your dog will quickly learn to associate that tone with "not good" things.

Oh yes! Your animal picks up on your tone of voice and your mood. If you know your dog well you can also tell when he's happy, embarrased, sad, lonely, and yes....when his feelings are hurt!

Oh my gosh, how wonderful of you to wonder about this,Dog's are very sensitive, you don't even have to diss him with your voice,he can smell your anger..You will get more with sugar than vinegar(old saying) but it's true,A dog knows when it dissapoints you- if it'a a potty problem,I learned that if he could open the door to go potty,he would have done that rather than get yelled at and embarrased by you! Please be patient dear friend, they are so sensitive to verbal abuse.

When i use this tone with my puppy, she puts her ears back and goes to her crate. So, yes they do know what the tone of your voice means.

Dogs do not have feelings the way we do. The dog will recognize that you are angry, and that he did something wrong. The next second, the have totally forgotten and moved on.
Just keep in mind, never punish or correct a dog after you called them to you... they will associate their 'coming to you' as why they were punished.

It won't hurt his feelings. It will assert yourself as the leader of the pack in his eyes - which is what dogs need. This is how they learn.
