I also grind my teeth when I'm sleeping. Often I grind when I'm under tremendous stress. The dentist can make a mouth-guard which is form fitting that will stop the damage that the grinding does to the teeth and the lower jaw.

I'm assuming your an adult, so the main cause is stress. For kids, most experts think bruxing is a method of stimulating the fomation of the permenant teeth.

If you grind alot, a nightguard/bruxism appliance is a good idea to stop the wear of your teeth and the posibility of TMJ dysfunction. Its a clear plastic mouth guard you wear at night, or during the day if our really stressed. It costs about $300 and can be made in a couple of days.

The condition is called bruxism. Grinding wears down your teeth. You can buy a mouth guard from a drug store, or your dentist.

assuming you don't use drugs, you could have a nervous condition or t.m.s. or fibromyalgia. In all of these and more conditions you tend to grind your teeth. Since you didn't ask for remedys I won't give any. Don't drink coffee. I couldn't resist one.

Stress. Your dentist can get an appliance made for you to wear at night to stop. Grinding has longterm affects like TMJ.

Often happens as a result of stress - you may also find yourself doing this when you are awake, but not consciously. The medical term is "bruxing".
