I am a 29 year old male. I am overweight and have been for about the past 15 years. In the past 2 weeks I have lived off junk food pretty much. Fast food, chips, chocolate, you name it. I also have not been drinking very much water. Have I been feeling like this because of my eating habits? It seems that way. I also lack any energy whatsoever and am living off caffeine pills to keep me awake enough to work. I have absolutely no will power and I am going down hill very fast it seems. I know when it comes down to it, I need to just find it in myself to pull it together, but I am just looking for some advice I guess. Thanks

Some of it could be diet; some of it could be the caffeine pills. Once the high from the pill wears off, you're even more tired than before.

Have you been to your family doctor lately for a full physical? There could be more underlying problems, like type II diabetes or thyroid problems that may be laying you low.

You may also want to consider if you have depression; over eating, fatigue and lack of energy/motivation can be symptoms of the problem. Try any of the tests on the pages below and if the results indicate depression may be part of the problem, print out the results and take them to your doctor.

Whether or not depression is part of the problem, find ways to decrease the junk in your diet; even if that means buying lower fat treats (low fat chocolate pudding instead of that made with high fat, low fat chips). Also buy 'convenience packs' of fruits and vegetables (baby carrots, pre-cut fruits). It's a bit more expensive, but easier to pull out and eat-no preparation needed. I find I'm more likely to pick healthy snacks when I have convenience packs handy.
