I have seen many Atheists on here be accused of doing Satans work. I have even had it happen to me first hand. What I would like to ask is why do you think that they are doing Satans work?

Taking into account that Satan is supposed to be the father of all lies. Also taking into account that most Atheists I know seek the Truth in everything. Wouldn't it be a bit odd to say that those who seek truth do Satans work?

Granted many christians would say that they do this by refuting the "One Truth" of God. However without true proof that the teachings in the bible are uncorrupted, without true proof that the doctrine of any church is correct, you cannot state that the reverse is not true. Without being able to prove truth, you cannot prove an absence of fallacy. Isn't the best lie one that is hidden within a web of truths?

Granted you could try to turn that around, but then I could say that blindly following something that could be lies is doing Satans work.

So why demonize the truth seekers?

2007-02-26 13:07:09 · update #1

My question does not pertain in any way to us Atheists belief in God or the Devil (Or rather lack of belief). It is a question as to why christians demonize us by saying we are doing Satans work, when we are seeking the truth.

And as a side note, I do not seek truth to justify my beliefs. I seek truth to gain knowledge and enlightenment.

Oh and a PS..

It looks like some of you did not thoroughly read the entire question. Pity.. Though I'll have to admit it was a little cruel of me to whip out the wall O' text. :P

If they are, I hear the pay is lousy and the benefits are nonexistant.

*drumroll*

Seriously, though... the idea that truthseekers are working for the Adversary just goes to show how appallingly little respect some people have for intellectual inquiry. I'd rather die before I'd be told that I couldn't think because it "just wasn't allowed by God". Such a God is no God that I would ever have cause to honor.

I wonder at your belief that Atheists are "working" for anything. Why would you? If you have no belief why should you care that I or anyone else does?

I don't think that you are doing "satan's" work. Frankly if you are talking about talking people out of their faiths, very often it is a few of those who practice that faith that succeed in chasing people away in droves.

What bothers me are proselytizing Atheists that insist that THEY have the only truth, and that everyone must believe as they do; that there is no legitimate belief system. It annoys as much as any other fundamentalism.

Edited:

To the poster below: Yeah I know that's the point. Isn't it ironic that some more "enthusiastic" Atheists and proselytizing evangelicals have so much in common? There are a lot of fundamentalists in the world and not all of them are Christians, or Muslims or Jews.

It's really kind of strange. Everyone that is not a Christian is an "atheist" to Christianity. This includes Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, etc. Yet modern politically ocrrect society encourages Christians not to ridicule these other religions. Christians aren't supposed to call Buddhists "Satanists" or Sikhs "Satanist" because religious tolerance and respect is the name of the game.

Applying this principle on a larger scale, everyone is an "atheist" to every religion but their own. Jews don't believe in Zeus. Muslims don't believe in Quetzalcoatl. Mormons don't believe in Allah. Jainists don’t believe in Zoroaster, &etc. And that's acceptable because religious tolerance and respect is expected.

However, true atheists aren't a whole lot different than anyone else. We agree with the Muslims that Poseidon does not exist. We agree with the Christians that Mithra does not exist. We agree with the Taoists that Allah does not exist. We agree with the Jews that Anubis does not exist. In fact we agree with the "atheism" of all religions.

The only difference between Christians and Atheists is that Atheists believe in one less God than Christians do. By all accounts we should be the most respected people on the planet. Instead, we are despised. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense, does it?

If I don't believe in Jesus but instead believe in Krishna, that's OK. Jesus may not intercede for me, but at least I'm respected for my beliefs. But if I don't believe in Jesus or Krishna, then I'm an idiot, and a Satanist, and whatever label the religionist want to throw this way.

It seems people don't really understand the question...
Of course atheists aren't going to say they are working for the Devil since they do not believe in it.
But that does not mean other people do not believe they are pawns used by the Devil.

They question is: Why do Christians insist atheists are full of lies (ie Deceived by Satan) when they seem to be the only ones seeking Truth?

Atheists don't believe in the teachings of the bible. Satan is a tool of the bible to scare the wits out of anyone that doesn't conform to it's teachings. From a religious point of view they could be seen to be doing the devils work but from an atheists point of view they have nothing to fear as satan does not exist for them!
I suppose it all depends on whose side of the fence you are sitting on!

Wow! Long question. But anyway, the answer is yes. Anyone or thing that works against God is the work or worker of Satan. And please, think it not strange that you think as you do, that you question God's existence. That has been going on since the beginning of time. Just realize that "seeking truth" does not in any way change truth. And as far as proof goes, well, the Bible never calls for us to try and prove God to you.

Well, there is the saying that, "Whoever is not for us is against us." So, in a way, they are doing Satan's work, whether they planned it or not, and even whether they want to or not.

I do believe that many Atheists seek the truth. I also believe that they refuse to believe the truth of God, for whatever reasons. Those who truly seek the truth will find it. Those who seek a truth to justify what they want to believe will find that, too. The real question is, are you really open to truth?

You call yourself a truth seeker when you blindly follow a religion that holds no evidence of the true existance of its god. We are the real truth seekers. We realize that there is no evidence, and this is the strongest evidence against it.

I dont think that Athiests are bad people, I just simply don't believe as they do.

However, I do believe that Satan uses people to try to keep people from God. That is his sick little game.

However, I think your question is a little strange, since my understanding is that Atheists dont believe in God or Satan.
