My childrens school will be collecting some items to send to members of the National Guard. It is a Christian school and we would like to include some Bibles.

What would be preferred by the soldiers? A small pocket size one in a plastic bag, The Outdoor Bible which is larger and comes in a camo bag with 6 or so books with each containing 2 or more books of the Bible on a waterproof map style function, or I saw one that is by Duraword that is more tradional size but waterproof?

Is waterproofing necessary/preferred? They are expensive. This is also the National Guard and they are doing more policing or at least that is my understanding.

Any input from soldiers themselves or National Guard members would be appreciated.

Thanks for all you do!!

First, let me say thank you from the bottom of my heart for what you are doing. I want you to personally give each of those kids a hug and tell them that Sgt Woods, Chaplain Assistant, 1/172 AR who recently returned from Ar Ramadi, Iraq sent it!!!!

(and I am in the National Guard and we did anything BUT policing. We were the front line infantry mechanized.)

Second, the military has traditionally given out NIV bibles in many shapes and sizes, so any other translation- KJV,NKJV, NLT, etc. would be greatly appreciated by the troops, and knowing that they come from the kids will make them extra special.

Waterproof is great, as sweat and field conditions tend to ruin soft cover books. As for the type, again, just knowing the kids sent them will make them special.

Have the kids include their address at the school and I bet a lot of the troops will write back. That should be pretty neat.

Thanks again and God bless you!

The little pocket ones are the easiest to ship and they fit in cargo pockets. Plus they aren't too heavy.
If you place each bible in a little plastic bag no waterproofing is required.

Well I usually see soldiers use the medium ones, like the size churches have. A sturdy one for sure. The Army usually has paperback ones available. But not too sturdy.

Dear Kelly R.:

I am an old soldier and I would have to say a pocket size with reasonable size text. God Bless you and your children's school.

Sense there are many different religions in the military, each person has their own bible.
